From breezy, easy Sagittarius we move to a more somber energy of Capricorn.
Capricorn is an Earth sign represented by the Goat. Goat symbolizes tenacity, being sure footed and constancy. The grounded goat can climb mountains, and encourages us to climb our own personal mountains, physical or otherwise. Be assured, the view from the top is spectacular.
The sign of the Goat is a practical sign, urging us to self-discipline and being sensible, especially with money. Capricorn is a forward thinking sign, a sign of planning, making commitments. It is a very goal and career oriented, ambitious sign.
It is no surprise that this is the beginning of tax time and retirement savings plans. Planning for the future is important to Capricorn. As we look at our income and spending patterns at tax season, we begin to set financial goals for the coming year.
New Years is traditionally a time of setting resolutions for the year ahead in Western culture. Most of the time these resolutions get broken, or forgotten. We try to start in January to set things in motion but end up with a lack of commitment. I’ve never had luck starting new goals, planting new seeds, in January. The ground is still frozen, at least here in Canada. For me, this is the time of consideration. What are my options? What is best for me to shift or set in motion this coming year? Let me dream what life would be if I chose this or if I chose that. This is a time of feeling things out – getting ready for the Spring Equinox. With Mercury Retrograde from January 5th/6th until January 25th/26th, this year it’s even more a time to feel our way.
So, decide on your goals, but be prepared to change or fine-tune them. Be watchful for opportunities, define what success would be for you and what steps you would need to take to manifest them. Indulge the planning stage. Don’t be afraid to day dream; amazing things come from letting the mind wander.
Think about three goals for the coming year
Decide what being successful would be for each one. Define the goal in more detail
Dream about how you would feel with this goal coming into fruition.
Be prepared to change or tweak it
Sit with these goals. Do this for a few days, probably best to do this until the end of Mercury Retrograde. Do they feel appropriate? Let Mercury do its’ job. Let things simmer and blend, and see what happens.
Physically, Capricorn deals with knees, arthritis and gall bladder. A little cleanse after the holidays may be in order. I’m doing a 5 day juice cleanse starting Monday. Feel free to join me – I can send you the info if you’re interested.
Sagittarius is the most optimistic, freedom loving sign in the Zodiac. New Moon in Sagittarius is Friday December 11. Sag. is a fire sign and its focus is outward. Bring it on, the more the merrier. After the journey through deep, inner focused Scorpio, it feels as though the bonds have been loosened and we are able to expand, let loose our arrows and fly. Even though my feeling is that this a more contemplative version of Sag this year, I definitely feel the shift from Scorpio.
Jupiter, the planet that rules Sagittarius, is a planet of expansion and excess. To those born under this sign, events may seem larger than life. Tall tales are not intentional, that’s just how it is. They may also have difficulty knowing when to quit. Too much good times, good food, good laughs. Moderation is an appropriate lesson for a Sag.
This is a sign of optimism – the original Pollyanna. We can certainly use some optimism right now – things are getting better for sure, aren’t they…. There is always a silver lining and things will always work out. If there is something in your life that seems not to be working out, take a moment aside, envision the situation and envision the highest and best good outcome as you see it. Then let it go and assume some of Sagittarius’ optimism.
People born under this sign are generally ideas people. They have the big vision. They are the people to talk to for the inspiration, but don’t expect the details to be taken care of or the follow through to happen naturally unless they have a good dose of Virgo in their chart. They are brilliant at what they do, so use this energy to be inspired and see the big picture. Dream a little, or a lot. Next Lunar month we’ll be practical. This is a great time to dream. Light some candles, put on some soft music and let inspiration come. Don’t force it – that’s not the Sagittarius way. Let it flow. Is there a fairy in that candle light – I guess for fire, it would be a salamander, wouldn’t it?
We moved into the sign of Scorpio between October 21st and 23rd. Scorpio is a fixed water sign that takes us down to the depths to discover what we’re hiding from ourselves. It’s a sign that invites change.
When we experience something that is too much to handle, whether it’s the way we’re spoken to, or of, the way we’re treated, or an event that is too shocking or fearful, we create coping mechanisms in order to survive.
One of those coping mechanisms is to bury the feelings as deeply as we can, so we can fool ourselves that situations never happened, or at least that they did not have an affect us. In the work that I do, that would be called creating barriers around the heart or brain. What happened is buried in the unconscious safely behind hefty stone walls. This protects us from the pain, the fear, the confusion.
We’re being asked now to finally face what we’ve buried. The more we release, the more light we can carry. The more light we carry, the more we can help others release and heal just through our presence.
Scorpio is an inner journey. It rules birth, death and sexuality (creativity). This gives us the opportunity to examine our triggers, our behaviour patterns, then transform that which no longer serves us. This takes time alone to explore our inner reality.
When we understand ourselves we see what needs to be celebrated and what needs to shift. Set intent to release and heal. Scorpio rules self-mastery and some forms of healing, so take charge, celebrate what got you to where you are and release what needs to go.
Take some time alone to do this little meditation:
Do some deep breathing to relax and centre yourself.
Close your eyes. Breathe in, pulling the breath down to the abdomen, then fill the rib cage then the shoulder/chest. Slowly release the breath from the shoulder/chest, then rib cage and the abdomen. Do this 3 or 4 times until you feel centred and relaxed.
When it feels right, ask your guides, your angels, your higher self, whoever you work with, to bring what needs to be released into your consciousness in a way that you can understand and handle. Relax and let it come. Then ask to learn what you needed to learn, to see the gift in the situation, and to heal. When your meditation feels complete, thank whoever has been working with you, slowly open your eyes and move into the now.
The answer may not come immediately. It may be modelled for you in someone else’s behaviour; you may see it in a line in a book. Expect an answer, then watch for it. When you get it, ask for the learning and healing, so that you may move forward.
Scorpio is a sign of loyalty and tenacity. In a relationship, they are focused on the partner, seldom straying. When working on a project, they give it their full attention, looking at it from all angles, probing it to find out all there is to know. Scorpio skims the surface of nothing that it is interested in. With the help of the Scorpio energy, we can give up the slap-dash and give people, situations and ideas the attention they deserve.
It’s no surprise that physically Scorpio deals with the organs of elimination, sexual diseases and sexual organs. So pay attention to your body and how it is releasing, and practice safe sex.
This New Moon in Libra is on Tuesday October 13, 2015. Last lunar month in Virgo, we contracted, pulled in, looking/focused on the details. This lunar month we expand. We learn to include others, build partnerships and share. This is the pulse – contract, expand, contract, expand.
Libra is an air sign, the sign of the scales. That signifies that we have the opportunity to integrate balance and equality into our lives. Part of that is being able to see the other person’s point of view. One thing I’ve learned this time around is that “the truth” is personal and will probably change over time. Every time we contract, or pull in, as we did in Virgo, we learn more of our own truth. When we expand, we have the opportunity to try out that truth in life. How does it fit? I hold certain things as true, but not everyone would agree with me. They have a different truth and we are all right. People who integrate this aspect of Libra are peacemakers.
If you have difficulties with this aspect of Libra, do some work around having to be right and being more allowing.
Libra is ruled by Venus. Libras enjoy all things beautiful. They tend to be art lovers and enjoy being surrounded by harmony and balance. They are charming and love to do things in their own time. Don’t rush a Libra. This a great time of year to slow down, take in and be thankful for the beauty around us.
One of the things that many people find difficult is to receive. We love to give, but receiving, or allowing others to give or support, is not as easy. Libra is about working in partnership, whether it’s one on one or as a team, so give and take is important. On the flip side, we can need too much support, fear to take initiative or figure things out on our own. In relationships it’s important to be comfortable both ways – balance.
Because Libras are so aware of “the other” and their likes and needs, and have a need to please, it can be difficult to make decisions. We may all find it more difficult to make decisions this month. My grandmother used to say, “If you please yourself, at least one person is pleased.” So grab your courage by both hands, take a deep breath, and move from your head to your heart. What does it say to do?
Physically, Libra rules kidneys, adrenals and the buttocks. Perhaps these organs etc. need a bit of extra care at this time of changing weather.
You know the saying “don’t sweat the small stuff, and it’s all small stuff”? Well, Virgo would say “if you sweat the small stuff, you won’t have to sweat the big stuff”. You’re prepared. The person who first said “Measure twice, cut once”, must have been a Virgo.
Going back to school means getting organized – for students, parents and teachers. Do we have the supplies we need, the clothes we need? Did we choose the right courses? We are starting over – it’s a new beginning. Are we prepared?
For the rest of us this “new beginning energy” has carried over from our school years. Play time (summer) is over, and it’s time to settle down again and get organized. For those of us in business, this brings in the “fourth quarter”. It is the last opportunity to accomplish what we wanted to, what we said we would, in this year. So, we will be looking back over the year, becoming introspective, evaluating what we have done and still want to do. We’ll check the details. Are we on track?
So, what can we do to accomodate this side of the Virgo energy in our lives? Here are some ideas:
- sort out your diet and exercise programs, get a new routine going. Make an effort to continue those lovely green salads, fresh fruits and vegetables and juices into the rest of the year. Start checking out interesting soup recipes.
- Organize the work spaces in your home – the kitchen, the home office – so what you need is at your finger tips.
- Organize your fall wardrobe, getting any dry cleaning and mending done so you’re good to go.
- Review your finances, balance your cheque book. Can you put any more into savings?
- If you own your home, arrange to have the furnace and air conditioner cleaned and checked.
That’s the outer work. Now for the inner work:
- Have you grown? Dig out your goals and intent from the New Year. How are you doing? Make a list of what you’ve accomplished. Did you work through that fear? Did you take that next step? Did you share love? Take time to sit with your accomplishments. Congratulate yourself.
- Then, call a friend and congratulate them on everything they have accomplished, on how they have grown. You may even see something they haven’t.
- Next, take a look at what you still have to accomplish, what you still want to bring into your life this year. Sit with the list and consider “ What do I need to do , allow, receive, in order for this to happen? And is it still appropriate?
- Once you’re clear about your own process, call a friend and offer a sounding board, an ear (to listen) or a piece of wisdom, if appropriate. Share your experience. Virgos love to be of humble service.
Once you’ve taken care of the details, you won’t have to worry about the days to come. You’re prepared. Take a deep breath and smile.
Friday August 14 is New Moon in Leo. Last New Moon cycle, in watery Cancer, we pulled in a bit, focused on home, family, emotions. It was an intense month, with two powerful Full Moons. This cycle we’re in a fire sign that is focused more outward. This is a sign of having fun, getting people together to celebrate or just enjoy. Even though this is a fun-loving sign, it is the last month before school starts, before vacations traditionally end and we focus again on the regular work schedule. Is there something that we need to look at, to shift before that happens? This is the perfect time to go within and be honest with ourselves and make the changes so we are ready for the next cycle.
This sign brings visions of Leo the Lion, majestic, courageous, as in lion-hearted, loyal and proud. We are supported during this time to enhance these qualities, or to tone them down, in our lives. Are we loyal to our friends and family? Are we there for them, do we support them in their growth? Are we generous with our love, with our kindness. With Venus in retrograde, past relationships may be coming forward, either physically or mentally, so we can take another look. These are great questions to ask ourselves, and set intention around if something needs to shift. Remove the barriers to finding your inner lion.
Leo is a very creative sign, so dig out your creativity. Plan a sizzling party, start a creative project, pick up some coloured markers or whatever catches your fancy and lose yourself in the moment. Leos have great focus. When they decide to do something, there is great follow through, strength and courage. So get going. This is a time to dream, to vision, as well as to create. Take time to find your dreams this month, for next month, we start looking at the details of those dreams.
Leo holds the leadership skills for the Zodiac. Leo’s like to be at the front of the line, in the spotlight, getting the accolades and attention. They have pizzazz, they’re dramatic, self-confident. They can sparkle. Find your sparkle and spread some of it around.
We are also being asked to find our courage this month. If you are harbouring fear, whether it belongs to you, to someone else, or to a past incarnation (if you believe in such things), it needs to go. We are being given support right now to find it and heal it, so this is a big project this month for many of us. Call on Leo the Lion to help you, call on your guides to show you where the fear is hidden.
So, if you are setting intent this New Moon, here are some samples
- I am asking for the courage to face my fears.
- I am asking to bring more fun into my life.
- I am asking to see where my creativity lies, to access it and enjoy being in the moment.
- I am asking to realize my leadership abilities, using them with respect, courage and pride.
Thursday July 16 is New Moon in Cancer. This is a water sign, dealing with the emotional side of life. It’s a sign that deals with the home front, home and hearth, the Mother energy, the basis for our growth and ability to cope. Home and family often give us our biggest challenges and our biggest opportunities for growth. That is where we can belong, be accepted for who we are – or not. So this is a time for us to pull back, to go inward, to discover ourselves at a deeper level, to ground into who we are more deeply, to understand who we are more deeply, with reference to where we came from and where we are now. Often the home we came from influences the home we create. This is an opportunity to understand that, to ground into that knowing, to nurture ourselves and those who have helped us create who we are. It’s also an opportunity to create and nurture a solid base from which we can move forward.
We started this new journey in Aries when we planted our seeds. We had new dreams, new goals. The journey has taken us many places in a short time. Are we still the people we were when we started out in April? How have we changed? If there has been change, how do we nurture that part of us?
Part of that for me, is being more centred in my home and family. It grounds me and allows the energy, the emotions, to integrate more easily. One of my favourite ways to get in touch with home and hearth is to get down on my knees and scrub the floors. It’s a bit old fashioned, I guess, but those rhythms, those connections, that grounding, don’t seem as easy to make with a mop.
This year, 2015, is an 8 year in numerology (add up the 2+1+5). If you turn the number 8 on its side, you get the infinity sign. This sign represents balance (amongst other things). In Cancer, we are being asked to look at the balance in our lives pertaining to home, to family.
So, here are some questions:
Is there a balance between your home life and your work life?
Is there a balance in your family relationships?
Do you give as much as you receive?
Do you allow yourself to receive as much as you give?
Have you nurtured some one to day?
Have you been nurtured today – by someone else or by yourself?
What does nurturing mean to you?
What does nurturing mean to the important others in your life?
Cancer is also about understanding our own emotional processes – how we react and why. Taking a look at our family dynamics growing up can often give us answers. When we gain and understanding of ourselves at this level, it’s easier to understand, have empathy for others, be sensitive to their needs, to care. When we understand ourselves, are comfortable with and own our emotions and reactions (by doing some energetic work around them) it’s easier to be vulnerable and real in our relationships.
What we are building this month is a stable platform, a home base from which we can go forth and greet what is coming in the next lunar cycle with confidence. I’m here to help, if you need me.
Since Geminis tend to live in their heads, they can be ungrounded; so let’s take a moment to ground ourselves. Take a deep breath and let it out slowly. Now, become aware of your feet, the bottoms of your feet. Stamp them on the ground a couple of times, then imagine roots coming down your legs, through your feet and into the ground. Take another deep breath in and exhale it through your feet into the earth. Now, does that feel different?
Gemini is ruled by Mercury, that fast moving (Mercurial) Messenger to the Gods and prime communicator. From this we can deduce that Gemini rules communication of all kinds, and that clear, truthful, tactful and timely communication is what we can learn through this energy influence. Learning to think before we open our mouths is important, formulating our thoughts with care. It also entails, the other side of communicating (we are dealing with the twins, after all) – listening. The ability to listen effectively, not nodding the head but the mind is elsewhere type of listening, but engaged listening, is truly important. This includes the ability to listen without interrupting (that’s a tough one). Listening isn’t about you, it’s about the other.
Gemini is the sign of the twins, and as such, has an on-going internal push/pull. If you look at real life twins, you may see opposite qualities embodied, the shy – the bold, the one who steps on – the one who allows being stepped on, the one who revels in physical work – the one who dons his suit and runs the other way. Encapsulate these traits in one being – just imagine. Now, we all have this scenario to a degree, but Gemini seems to have chosen to be the huge mirror for us so we can see these conflicting parts of ourselves and bring balance and harmony. Part of us may harbour the desire to do certain things with our lives, the other may harbour the fear or guilt that keeps us in one place, unable to move. The supporting energy of Gemini can help us to learn to bring balance to these parts of ourselves.
This balance and harmony will allow us to focus. It’s very easy for Geminis to be distracted, there is so much going on in their heads. They can get pulled in all directions by the glitter of new ideas. So this month, it is time for us to recognize the distractions for what they are, to stay focused and move forward. Choose an idea that feels good, focus on it and see where it takes you.
New Moon in Gemini is Tuesday June 16.
